After completing Divemaster training from PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) in the 1990's, I worked part time as a divemaster on Mike's dive boat. Mike commissioned me for several art projects including a 9'x5' mural above the dive deck and numerous dive briefing charts, some of which are showcased in this website. After running out of places on his boat to paint stuff I went over to his house and painted there.

Mike described what he envisioned and I came up with this concept sketch. After lying on my back like Michelangelo painting the large mural on his boat, this was to be a piece of cake... maybe. I had to balance 5 feet off the ground on a ladder. The upside was the lighting was good, there were no mosquitoes and Barbara made a mean spaghetti and meatballs. The one uncomfortable thing was Mike's dogs kept staring at me with critical eyes. Later I found out they just wanted dog treats and really didn't care what I was painting.

The finished mural was 9 feet wide and painted with acrylic paints.
